About Me:
Throughout my entire life I had never been inspired, that is until I met my husband who is the love of my life. Ever since I was a little girl in elementary school, I had always wanted to be a writer. I have been through many obstacles and challenges throughout my life and never in my wildest dreams I would have known that I could possibly accomplish anything, let alone inspire someone else…
My name is Francis Marie Brathwaite; I am a 29 year old Hispanic female from Brooklyn, NY. My mother moved to New York City from Puerto Rico when she was just 12 years old. She never did attend school here in the states so unfortunately she was just educated by the streets that raised her. My mother was a party queen back in the day, while trying to raise three children on her own. I never did know my father so there is nothing to say about him. I have two brothers. My brother Frankie is 27 years old and a life-long criminal who has spent most of his life in and out of juvenile detention centers, city jails, and state prisons. He has 2 beautiful children by a dedicated mother living in Orlando, Florida. My baby brother is named Gabriel; he is 25 and my best friend. He has been a naval officer with the United States Navy for the past 8 years. He has three beautiful children and is married living in Virginia.
As a young child I have had to endure pain, neglect, abandonment, abuse, rape, homelessness, among many other unfortunate ordeals. As an adult I have had the chance to experience strength, confidence, trust, and most of all unconditional love. I have been through the best and the worst of things and every time I got knocked down, I always had the strength to get back up. I met my husband in 2006, he had also been through everything that life had to offer both good and bad. Throughout our relationship we have had a lot of ups and downs, although there has always been something in us that we can't put aside. That something is called wanting to make a difference. We got married in January of 2007, and have been doing a lot of things in order to give back to the urban community.
I have a love for cooking and baking, but my passion is to write. I love all animals except for snakes and lizards. I have a grey tabby cat named Beebee, he is a crazy handful. I love to read books with meaning: history, poetry, Shakespeare, biographies, autobiographies, true crimes, and unsolved mysteries. I love having game night with my husband where we play monopoly, scrabble, and chess. I also love all types of movies and reality television.
My husband and I published a motivational teen survival guide in September that took us a year to complete. What inspired me the most was the love that someone could have for another. I never did have that love and when it was given to me, I was empowered and motivated to make changes in my life that would ultimately help others in the future. I decided to go back to school and earn my degree in teaching, because I would like to help troubled teens in the inner-city that people have given up on. I believe that everyone can change, but igniting change does come from empowerment and inspiration. I have several other projects that I want to put together and I feel that by having this degree it would help further my career in all aspects.
